The Beginning of Beatbox in Nepal: The Contribution of Nishanta Gauchan and the Beat Break beatbox battle.
Beatboxing, a unique and captivating art form, has gained popularity in Nepal. Originating from the hip-hop scene, it has found a passionate following among Nepali youth, thanks to the pioneering efforts of individuals like Nishanta Gauchan. Gauchan discovered beatboxing as a teenager and quickly became fascinated by its possibilities. Inspired by international beatboxers like Doug E Frsh, Rahzel and KRNFX. After listing them, “I had never seen something like that in my life back then,” says Gauchan. “I had no clue what it was called as well but I was just blown away watching what I saw on the television by the fact that people could produce music through the sounds made by their mouth as well.”
The day became a turning point in Gauchan’s life. He decided to learn and popularise the art of beatboxing in Nepal.
Nishanta Gauchan’s journey was not without challenges, as in the early 2000s, beatboxing was relatively unknown in Nepal. Despite these challenges, he tirelessly promoted beatboxing through performances, workshops, and collaborations with fellow musicians. His contributions to the Nepali beatboxing scene are multifaceted and profound, including mentoring aspiring beatboxers and founding the Nepali Beatbox Community.
Recently, BEAT BREAK, the ultimate Nepali beatbox battle, was held. In this high-energy event, 20 of the best beatbox artists from all over Nepal came together to showcase their skills and compete for the title of champion. We can see Nishanta Gauchan and Aayush Lamsal Chettri as a judge. This battle was hosted by Vyoma. The beatbox battles have been uploaded to YouTube on the Break Station channel.
